ELEMENTS OF DECORATING:
Visual: Remember to create balance & visual interest by arranging objects of different shapes and sizes in an asymmetrical arrangement. Balance a large temple jar with a few smaller ones in different shapes. Group the jars together to increase the arrangement's visual weight and overlap shapes to create layers. Same would be for a trio of vases, a bowl of seaglass or a stack of books.
Texture:Texture is important for making a living room thoughtful, interesting and cozy. Soft fabrics that appeal to the touch mixed with harder textures that add contrast glass, plants, seagrass, wood, ceramic and more.
Contrast: Mix lights with darks. Keeping in sync with a beach house palette, the lights are white, tan and soft hues of blue. Then contrast this by adding darker tan, browns, deep blue and navy blue. This mixing of color can be done with a white sofa and darker print pillows. Try a whitewash pine table topped with rich cobalt and white temple jars. A dark side table with a white lamp.
Pops of Color: It always adds a point of interest when you introduce some hints of color. A vase of poppies. A row of colorful, assorted pillows, a rug with a grass green stripe. A piece of coastal art with a rich red boat for the focal point. Why not add a bold chandelier or an coral lamp? There are so many ways to add the pops of color from top to bottom for any room you're decorating.
